Course Description

Hearing Conservation in Industry: CAOHC Certification & Re-Certification Course in Hearing Conservation

 


Objectives

Upon the completion of this program, the participant should be able to:

  • Describe the role of the certified hearing conservationist in a comprehensive hearing conservation program.
  • List the effects of noise on the worker.
  • Describe the basic psychophysics of sound.
  • Demonstrate the proper techniques for obtaining and recording hearing thresholds.
  • Identify five elements of a hearing conservation program as described by OSHA.
  • Differentiate normal from abnormal hearing.
  • Identify a “standard threshold shift”.
  • Describe two methods of measuring noise in the workplace.
  • Describe advantages and disadvantages of earplugs vs. earmuffs for hearing protection.
  • Describe the types of records that need to be maintained for OSHA compliance.
 


Accreditation

A continuing education unit (CEU) is defined as 10 contact hours of participation in an organized continuing education experience under responsible sponsorship, capable direction and qualified instruction.  CEUs provide a measure of educational achievement, and are widely recognized by employers, industry, professional associations, and certification and licensing agencies as evidence of education progress.  Participants who successfully complete programs that qualify for Continuing Education Units will receive CEUs according to this scale.  This course is approved for 2.4 CEUs (Or 0.8 CEUs for the recertification).

 

 

Course Evaluation

Attendees will be evaluated through in-class audiometric exercises and a written examination. A certificate of completion will be issued to each attendee who has demonstrated competency in audiometry and has scored a minimum of 70% on the examination.

Registration Fees: Prepayment is required.
Certification: $525 postmarked 10 working days prior to course start date, $600 thereafter.
Recertification: $175 postmarked 10 working days prior to course start date, $200 thereafter.
