Course Description

This training course is designed to provide a review session for those individuals who plan to sit for the Certified Hazardous Materials Manager Examination. This certification is important because environmental programs are vital to our public health and safety and, within that field, the management of hazardous materials requires proven and unquestionable skill and competence. Quality control over the professionals involved in programs of national importance, and particularly of public safety, is best accomplished through certification.

 


Objectives

Upon the completion of this program, the participant should be able to:

  • To provide an up-to-date and in-depth review session for attendees that will give an overview of the topics covered on the CHMM Examination.
  • To provide a quite study environment for attendees to review materials for the CHMM Examination. 
 


Course Evaluation

Attendees may elect to take the CHMM examination immediately following the course or at a later date. It is expected that attendees of this course when taking the examination will be able to demonstrate: An understanding of the basic principles involved in technologies pertaining to hazardous materials management, including: chemistry, radiology, physics, biology, geology/hydrology, toxicology, and engineering. When taking the exam, attendees should also be able to demonstrate: knowledge of the regulatory framework of environmental and hazardous materials management: the Federal regulations associated with TSCA, RCRA, CERCLA, FIFRA, OSHA, DOT, and EPA. As a final note, attendees when taking the exam are expected to demonstrate competence and maturity of judgment in managing environmental programs and resources. It is strongly recommended that prior to attending the CHMM Review Course, attendees have participated in a 40-Hour HAZWOPER Training course.

 


Accreditation

A continuing education unit (CEU) is defined as 10 contact hours of participation in an organized continuing education experience under responsible sponsorship, capable direction and qualified instruction. CEUs provide a measure of educational achievement, and are widely recognized by employers, industry, professional associations, and certification and licensing agencies as evidence of education progress. Participants who successfully complete programs that qualify for Continuing Education Units will receive CEUs according to this scale. This course is approved for 2.25 CEUs.

Certification: Applications for the Certification and Exam must be made to the Institute of Hazardous Materials Management (IHMM) at (301) 984-8969. Please apply for certification and examination through IHMM at least 6 weeks before you plan to take the exam.
